Dr. Miller's journey through life has been marked by a commitment to excellence, a passion for service, and a diverse range of interests and accomplishments. Born and raised in Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Miller's story begins at Hickman High School in 1984, where he embarked on a path that would ultimately lead to a distinguished career in dentistry and a lifelong dedication to community and civic engagement.


During his high school years, Dr. Miller was a standout athlete, earning four-year letters in swimming and serving as the team captain. His dedication and talent in the pool led to prestigious All-State accolades in the 200IM, 500 Free, and 200 Medley Relay. In addition to his aquatic pursuits, he also contributed his skills to the varsity cross country team. Dr. Miller's commitment to excellence extended beyond athletics, as he was recognized for his academic achievements by becoming a member of the National Honor Society.

One of the defining moments of Dr. Miller's high school experience was receiving the American Legion Award, a testament to his leadership and character. He also served as Class Treasurer, demonstrating his early aptitude for financial stewardship. Beyond the classroom and sports field, Dr. Miller showcased his musical talents as a member of the school band, mastering various instruments such as the concert tuba, jazz trombone, pep baritone, and marching Sousaphone. His exceptional tuba skills earned him a state-level 1 rating. Dr. Miller's commitment to service also became evident during this time as he joined Key Club and participated in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of "Life" and later becoming involved in Sea Scouts.


After graduating from Hickman High School in 1988, Dr. Miller's educational journey continued at the University of Missouri-Columbia. There, he pursued a degree in Secondary Education with a focus on Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Dr. Miller's leadership abilities shone once again as he served as the Rush Chairman for the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He also engaged in Campus Crusade for Christ, showcasing his strong faith and commitment to his beliefs.


As an academically driven student, Dr. Miller studied abroad during the Winter of '87 as part of the Scholars Abroad student exchange program. His dedication to academic excellence led to memberships in prestigious honor societies such as Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, and Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. His role as president of the PreDental Club demonstrated his early passion for dentistry, which would later become his career.


Dr. Miller's involvement in campus life extended to the Greek Week Steering Committee, where he contributed his organizational skills and enthusiasm. His academic achievements, including making the Dean's List, earning Freshman Honor status, and being part of the Honor's College, reflected his dedication to scholastic excellence. Scholarships, including the G. Ellsworth Huggins Scholarship, recognized his outstanding academic performance.


While at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Miller also continued to pursue his musical interests by participating in the Tuba & Euphonium Choir. Additionally, he remained active in athletics, engaging in intramural swimming and cross country.


After completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Miller moved on to the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Dentistry, where he graduated "With Distinction" in 1992, ranking 5th out of a class of 85. His talents extended beyond the dental chair as he took on the role of yearbook editor and was recognized as an outstanding senior dental student. Dr. Miller's dedication to his field was further affirmed by his induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society.


In his professional career, Dr. Miller became actively involved in various dental and healthcare organizations. His commitment to dental excellence led him to become a member of the Crown Council, Top of the Table MasterMind Group, MidAm Ortho, the Academy of LASER Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the Missouri Dental Association, where he served as a past member of the House of Delegates. Dr. Miller also contributed his expertise to the Central Dental Society as a past board member and served as the president of the Columbia Dental Society. His leadership extended to founding and presiding over the Columbia Dental Study Club.


Outside of his professional life, Dr. Miller's dedication to service remained steadfast. He engaged in numerous charitable activities, including annual missions with Mexican Medical Ministries, volunteering as a provider for Donated Dental Services, and offering his skills to the Special Olympics Special Smiles program. He also contributed his time and expertise as a volunteer dentist with the City/County Health Department.


Dr. Miller's commitment to his community was further exemplified through his involvement in Woodhaven, where he served as president of the Board of Directors. His engagement with Rotary Columbia South, the Al Price Chit Chat Club, and the Columbia Multisport Club showcased his passion for making a positive impact locally. His faith was an integral part of his life, as a member of the Christian Fellowship Church.


Dr. Miller's dedication to environmental conservation was evident through his participation in the Adopt-a-Spot program, and he continued his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, taking on roles such as den leader, committee member, and assistant scoutmaster, along with earning distinctions like WoodBadge and the district award.


An avid athlete, Dr. Miller embraced a range of outdoor activities, from motorcycle touring to sailing and boating, SCUBA diving, snowboarding, skiing, and camping and hiking. He also pursued triathlon, engaging in swim/bike/run challenges. His diverse interests extended to pistol shooting and involvement in the Columbia Entertainment Company pit orchestra.


Throughout his life, Dr. Miller has embodied the values of leadership, service, and a commitment to excellence. His story is one of dedication to education, professional success, and making a positive impact on his community and the world.
